Friends For Life: Eddy Ross
What started as a simple idea to get tradies talking on site has seen overwhelming support from all over Australia and beyond the working site. Ed Ross (2005 alumni) co-founded TradeMutt with his friend Daniel Allen, in 2018 after Allen lost a friend who had been silently battling mental health.
TradeMutt is a social impact workwear brand creating funky, eye-catching workwear designed to start conversations about mental health among the blue collar community, helping make an invisible issue impossible to ignore.
TIACS (This is a Conversation Starter) is the underpinning philosophy of the TradeMutt business but also the name of their charitable, not for profit, mental health support service. Through the sale of Trademutt Workwear they help to fund a hotline that provides free and unlimited professional mental health support for tradies, truckies and blue collar workers. They also host and run their own podcast, TradeMutt Radio!
TIACS provides a free text, chat and call back service direct to qualified psychologists. Ed and Daniel launched the TIACS Support Line only 6 months ago, yet have already given over $300,000 worth of clinical advice over the phone. TIACS was created to remove the physical and financial barriers that prevent so many Australians from reaching out for professional help when they need it. It allows anyone to seek help in a relatable, reliable, and discreet way.
TradeMutt now processes over 2000 workwear orders every month and are still growing. All TradeMutt orders are processed and packed by send-able, a third party logistics company that focuses on providing long term employment opportunities to people with a disability. They also have multiple other charities that they donate to or work with. These partnerships not only provide a reliable and efficient solution to warehousing, logistics, and dispatch, but evokes true social change.
